It’s hard to believe how quickly this past year has flown by. This time last year, Mommy was anxiously awaiting your arrival. Your room was painted and decorated. Your crib and bedding was set up. Your 0-3 months clothing had been washed and put away. Mommy’s hospital bag was packed. Everything was ready for your arrival. But despite how prepared we were for your arrival, when Mommy’s water accidentally broke two days later, we weren’t sure if we were actually ready for your arrival. Nonetheless, you arrived and we were so in awe of you from the minute we set eyes on you. You were perfect. Tiny, yet sturdy. Quiet, yet alert. Mommy remembers every minute of the time we spent together in the hospital. You were the only baby in the ward that didn’t cry all night. Mommy was so proud.
Upon arriving home, Daddy took care of us because we were basically stuck on the upper floor of the house. Daddy ran up and down the stairs bringing food for Mommy and bottles for you. Daddy even brought you to your first doctor’s appointment all by himself.
Over the months that followed Mommy set up a daily routine filled with music, singing, reading, bottles and naps. Daddy would call throughout the day to check in and then raced home after work to spend time with us. Soon you began to smile, coo, sit up, eat, crawl, stand on your own, and cruise the furniture. You’ve attended various play groups, and music and swimming classes. You’ve had play dates and made your own little baby friends. Now, you’re starting to walk, and communicate with Mommy and Daddy through sign language. There is nothing that warms my heart more than coming home to you at the end of each day. It’s the most exciting thing in the world to Mommy to see your face light up when we walk through the door. It’s also very exciting to see you developing new skills each week. Mommy’s favorites are when you use sign language for “milk”, clap your hands, play peek a boo, and say “ahhh” when it’s time to brush your teeth. You are so clever! You are truly Mommy’s pride and joy.
In four days, you will turn 1! Mommy is so excited for your birthday party. Traditionally, in Asian culture, first birthdays are very important, so Mommy can’t wait celebrate such an important milestone with so many people who adore you. You likely won’t remember this day but it doesn’t matter because it is one that Mommy will never forget.
